Net Meter is a useful utility if you're using a bandwidth-limited connection or if you're curious about how much bandwidth you use each day. The program watches the network traffic measures the download and upload speeds. Most users involuntarily ignore the speed of the connection their providers give them, but with Net Meter you can find out your connection's real speed and make sure you're getting exactly what you're paying for.
The program is very easy to install and configure. Once it's all set, the program will show a small rectangle with real-time statistics at the right-bottom side of the desktop to let you check your speed while you're surfing the Web. The program collects data and generates small reports which can be used to determine the global bandwidth usage and average speed per day, week, month, or year.
One nice feature of this program is the notification system. It allows you to set up special alerts when an event happens, such as exceeding the monthly download limit, or the upload quota per day; the combinations are quite flexible.
